Basic training for those without Anchor Handling Operations (AHO) experience

Admission Level:

Bridge or deck personnel working on anchor handling vessels.

Scope

This course is practical and theoretical and consists of a series of exercises performed on a realistic anchor handling simulator. Classroom lectures, to provide the necessary theoretical background for the exercises, are included. Particular items dealt with in these lectures are illustrated either by including them as part of an exercise or by a separate simulator demonstration.

Content

Theoretical lessons and practical simulator exercises, performed on realistic deck and bridge facilities:

  • Introduction to anchor handling
  • Anchoring of rig, different systems, build up of SOW
  • Walk through principles of “Safe Job Analyzes”
  • Vessel knowledge general layout of AHT vessels
  • Anchor handling equipment - tools, introduction and use
  • Abbreviations, phrases and terminology.
  • Winches, basic understanding of winch system & Winch Computer
  • Injury reports, accident , incidents, best practice
  • Regulations of NWEA, including OLF standard forms/Checklists
  • Various Tasks with maneuvering/basic anchor handling operations
  • Importance of experience feedback and knowledge sharing

Objective

The main objective of the course is to support a change of attitudes and increased knowledge about human and technical resources. Obtain a safe, secure and best practice in anchor handling operations, in order to avoid incidents, accidents and damages in an operational maritime environment.
