Model course description:
PSV 1 - Basic training for those without offshore experience

Bridge personnel working on anchor handling vessels.
Scope
This course is practical and theoretical and consists of a series of exercises performed on a realistic PSV simulator. Classroom lectures, to provide the necessary theoretical background for the exercises, are included. Particular items dealt with in these lectures are illustrated either by including them as part of an exercise or by a separate simulator demonstration.
Content
Theoretical lessons and practical simulator exercises, performed on realistic deck and bridge facilities:
- Introduction, purpose and motivation
- Basic maneuvering theory with focus on Offshore Support Vessels.
- Walk through principles of “Safe Job Analyzes”
- Planning of operation
- Wind/current, and their influence on the operation
- Vessel knowledge general layout
- Abbreviations, phrases and terminology.
- Types of cargo and cargo systems
- Injury reports, accident , incidents, best practice
- Various Tasks with maneuvering
- Importance of experience feedback and knowledge sharing
Objective
To have the personnel join the vessels with a sufficient knowledge that will enable them to work safely and efficiently on board the vessels. Furthermore, to give the inexperienced personnel a basic knowledge of the design, scope of work and especially of the safety aspects related to offshore support vessels. How to practice safe cargo handling.
