New research programme approved
OSC has got approval from the Norwegian Research Council (Norsk Forskningsråd) for funding of a 2-year research programme aimed at further development of man-machine-interfaces for simulator-based training.
The project will be executed together with the Aalesund University College (Høgskolen i Ålesund).
The project's overall idea is to arrive at a concept of man-machine interface (MMI) designed for personnel dependent on using body language as part of their typical work tasks.
Main objectives:
• Identify roles within a training context where traditional MMI is not appropriate for optimum training
• For the identified roles, identify how they interact / perform their role using body language
• Evaluate the different technological solutions (camera, multi-touch screens, IR sensors, etc.) to identify / recognize the different signals given through gestures
• Develop and implement a man-machine technology for roles where traditional MMI is not optimal.
